    Beware of Ezine Articles Thieves

A thief from Singapore has ruined my day. He copied my article “Does Ezine Advertising Work?” and posted it on some ezine articles directories using his name and his resource box.

How did I find it? Due to the help of Google Alerts where I setup an alert for “ezine ads”. This service is notifying me by email the websites containing these keywords as soon as Google discovers them.

Name of the thief: Vanson Tan. The whois for the website he promotes (registered on Jan. 14, 2009) shows the real name (maybe): Tan Thong Han, Blk 330 Clementi Ave 2 #07-182, Singapore, N/A 120330, Singapore.

By now I discovered 3 places where he posted my article under his name:

    • IdeaMarketers.com
    • ArticlesBase.com
    • GoArticles.com

Marnie Pehrson from IdeaMarketers already replied to my Copyright Infringement Notice and deleted the article from her website.

A big thank you to her. Only 30 minutes passed since I sent her the notification. I will definitely use her service for the next ezine articles I will write.

I know, I know, you may be disappointed by the fact that today’s post doesn’t contain ezine advertising tips … That’s life!

Maybe you will learn something from my experience… If you’re an ezine articles author, take care. Within the last month, the thief has posted a lot of articles under this name … GoArticles already shows that he posted 104 articles from January 26th till February 15th.

By the way, since Saturday I opened my account with Twitter. Nice tool and nice community. Today many people jumped to help me … I thank them all and I thank you too for reading this post :-)

Now I’m gonna check where else that thief posted my ezine article (or articles?).

Disclaimer: For avoidance of any doubt this blog post (and especially its title) does not refer to the reputable site EzineArticles.com also known by many people as “Ezine Articles”.

Update: ArticlesBase removed the article. Thank you, Ronit :-)

Update: 24 hours passed and no one from GoArticles contacted me at least for confirming the receipt of my Copyright Infringement Notice. Not so good for their image! I’ve just sent another email.

I hope they will soon stop sending traffic to the website of that thief!

Update: In the meantime I posted on SiteProNews a comment about this issue. The original post I commented on … is about GoArticles (SiteProNews belongs to the same network as GoArticles).

Within a few minutes the article disappeared from GoArticles and I was notified by email.

      End of story :-)

Another update: I’ve just discovered that the thief keeps doing his dirty job. On February 20 he posted my article (under his author name and using his resource box) also on ArticleAlley. I sent them a Copyright Infringement Notice too.

    5. admin Says:

More than 96 hours passed and no one from ArticleAlley responded in any way to my Copyright Infringement Notice. I also tried twice to contact them via Twitter but no one is checking their Twitter account. I’ve just sent them a reminder.

    6. admin Says:

Another 24 hours passed and no reply from ArticleAlley. Great job is doing this articles directory! OK, I’m going to contact their host WireSix.dom I hope they will be able to help me.

    7. admin Says:

After one whole week of silence, half an hour ago I got this email from ArticleAlley: “Sorry we are behind on editing and emails - I will get this delete today for you.”

    8. admin Says:

Finally ArticleAlley deleted the article stolen by Vanson Tan. What really bothers me now is that many ezine articles directories deleted the article copied by the thief, but didn’t bother to BAN the thief. Right now I did a simple check on Vanson Tan’s accounts with ArticleAlley, GoArticles and IdeaMarketers (tens or maybe over one hundred articles) and 2 out of 2 articles checked randomly are stolen from EzineArticles.com The sole directory that actually banned the thief is ArticleBase.

[…] the article copied from me, but only one directory banned the thief. The whole story is here: Ezine Advertising Blog Archive Beware of Ezine Articles Thieves Since only ArticlesBase banned the thief, I contacted once again some articles directories and […]

    10. admin Says:

Vanson Tan finally banned by GoArticles and all “his” articles deleted.

Despite my warnings and notifications, IdeaMarketers & ArticleAlley still don’t have any problem in hosting stolen articles! It may be a technique to force you to post your articles there (otherwise someone will post them without any problem!) Not very nice …

Another thief using the pen name Chris Lawrence has posted “Does Ezine Advertising Work?” and two of my other articles at Amazines. The funny (?) thing is that I posted myself at Amazines two of these articles BEFORE the thief did it. In vain. I wonder what Amazines editors are doing?

    12. admin Says:

I’m happy to report that within 1 hour and two minutes after I sent the Copyright Infringement Notice to Amazines, the thief was banned and I was contacted by the owner (Ryan Jones). Thank you, Ryan.

I have had this personally happen to me. Actually its quite ridiculous and quite irksome to know that this kind of stuff happens undetected in some cases.

    14. Ezine Advertising » Blog Archive » Bukisa Review - Just Another No-No Business Model Says:

[…] A few months ago I joined Bukisa and since that moment I posted some articles on their website. Not for the amount of AdSense money they share (peanuts), not for traffic (close to zero if I compare them with EzineArticles) or SEO but … very sad … for saving my time. (I wasted too much time dealing with copyright infringements sent to article directories that are not very professional and accept articles submitted by content thieves - see just an example here: Beware of Ezine Articles Thieves) […]
