Update 1: More than 3 months passed since my update above and absolutely nothing is changed at Essential Team Ad Co-op. The same 99 ezines and the same 1,119,686 subscribers (yeah, suure!).

Update 2: Some good news - Finally another ad co-op owner (Theresa Cahill from My Wizard Ads) has broken the silence and she reveals too some info about the cheaters who give a bad name to ezine advertising. Read her blog post If You Pay For An Ezine Ad You Should Get That Ezine Advertising.

Some good news. My wife has just received an invitation from Essential Team to join their ad co-op :-) I quote from that invitation: "We are at the moment updating and Re-organizing Essentialteam Ezine Ad Coop"

Wow! After many years of keeping unchaged a total subscribers base of exactly 1,119,686 subscribers from 99 ezines (most of them out of business since years), finally something is moving in the right direction. Let' see the next step ... Will Javed be strong enough to finally remove tens of ezines no longer published and show an offer not so attractive but real? Will see ...

Wow, I see I've found someone else not afraid to name names. I don't work with any co-ops right now but let me say as an Ezine publisher I appreciate you holding everyone to their word. This industry has a shaky reputation at best and you are helping keep it clean. Thanks for that.

As an owner of an Ad Co-op, I respect the investigative aspect of this article. Keeping high subscriber counts is good for business, but not at the expense of honesty!

Co-op owners: develop a method of keeping your publisher lists/subscriber counts up to date. Then simply maintain a proper description of your business! Publishers enter and leave programs for many reasons and advertisers will appreciate seeing exactly what they are spending their money on.

I think the Co-ops can recover if they update their sites and post what measures they will take to keep their lists up to date in the future.

Thanks, Adrian, for investigating this!
