Some Solo Ads Scream “DELETE ME”

    June 29th, 2009

If you want to improve the results of your solo ads, then try to understand the reasons that make the readers click quickly on that button hated by all email marketers: DELETE. The purpose of this article is to help you discover such reasons …

During the last hours I’ve checked the folder Trash of the email account where I receive the ezines I’m subscribed to. Below you will find the top subject lines that made me delete the solo ads without reading their ad copy. You will also find the reasons why I deleted these emails …

    Let’s start …

Wanna See A Brand New System That Makes $576,000+ per Year? – If the system is brand new, then that amount is just an ASSUMPTION. By the way, I don’t know the rules & laws in other countries, but in USA this is misleading advertising and is not allowed.

This has NEVER failed! – There is nothing perfect and a system (or whatever it is) that never failed … doesn’t exist (or it’s so new that no one really knows whether it works or not). I don’t like liars …

$0 to $15,000 per Month FAST, Even If You’re Broke… – What bank do I have to rob?

Jealous? – No, why do you ask?

How Scared Are You? – Not scared at all, sorry!

Did You Want Fries With That? – Huh? Was this supposed to make me curious? You didn’t succeed. I only wondered what do you want too from me …

… MILLIONAIRE in 12 months? – Suuure. I wonder why those “millionaires” always buy the cheapest ads? I guess they cannot afford more, or … maybe not even they believe their hypes…

You can try this for $4.95 – Am I supposed to open this email just because you sell something cheap?

I want You in my team – You’re not alone! But why should I care what do YOU want? No one cares about ME?

100% OFFLINE Marketing System! – Hey, I’m online and I don’t want to move from here. Anyway, are you a kind of genius and you discovered something new related to traditional (offline) marketing?

There’s A New Boss in Town! – Wow! Everyone runs away of their boss and do you expect me to read your sad news about a new boss?

Oh my Gosh… 6 Signups In One Day! – This sounds similar to the amazing and unique … “Oh my Gosh… I just earned one dollar!” Wow! I guess it was sooo difficult … Sorry, I really don’t have time to read about your “amazing” achievement …

UNEMPLOYED BUYS MILLION DOLLAR HOME. LEARN HOW – Why are you screaming at me? Anyway, I know the answer without opening your solo ad … His rich uncle has just died and he’s the sole heir, right?

Just in Case You Live Under a Rock… – Sorry, not my case.

Earn a $MILLION$ with 70 cents! – I guess you know that actually I found this solo ad in my spam folder … Even my inoffensive spam filter got crazy when this solo ad arrived …

Conclusions … If you say nothing, if you lie, if you like hype, if you think that the reader is dumb, if you only care about you …then you may have a big surprise: your solo ads will quickly land in the Trash folder. Why do you expect the reader to open your email when all your subject line does is to make the reader think, “What a liar!”. Don’t you like it? Then get serious …

    To Your Success!

Bukisa Review – Just Another No-No Business Model

    June 26th, 2009

A few months ago I joined Bukisa and since that moment I posted some articles on their website. Not for the amount of AdSense money they share (peanuts), not for traffic (close to zero if I compare them with EzineArticles) or SEO but … very sad … for saving my time. (I wasted too much time dealing with copyright infringements sent to article directories that are not very professional and accept articles submitted by content thieves – see just an example here: Beware of Ezine Articles Thieves)

Everything was fine till yesterday when I discovered that 2 days ago they approved and published the last article I submitted but … guess what … they removed my resource box! They didn’t bother to notify me and ask for my agreement …

I contacted them by Twitter … no reply.

I used their contact form and very quickly I got an answer, an amazing answer:

We apologize for not letting you know after it was done. We do not allow Resource Boxes. Your information must only be on your profile.

I said to myself, “Whaaat?” and I replied to that guy asking him to remove my article from that site because they do NOT have my permission to publish it without a resource box. No answer, no action. The guy replied to my first message and then disappeared.

I tried to delete the article while logged into my account. Not possible even if in theory there is a button there for such action …

    Then …

I checked once again my previous approved articles. All of them had the resource boxes in place. Then I read once again the Terms of Use. Nothing about that weird and new rule. Then I checked other articles approved yesterday (one day AFTER my article was posted) but belonging to other authors. Guess what? Very quickly I found out an article that has one promotional link inside the body of the article and it has also a resource box.

Well … since that moment I sent more emails to the Customers Support. No one ever responded, no one added back my resource box, no one deleted my article. Nothing.

I tried once again via Twitter and their contact form. I pointed to Bukisa staff other articles APPROVED by them recently including the article mentioned above and published on June 25 (the article that has a nice resource box at its bottom). I asked them once again to REMOVE my article from their site because they don’t have my permission to publish it without a resource box.

While my article is not yet removed, the sole new answer I received was via Twitter – just another dumb reply:

Bukisa isn’t an article directory, thus we don’t allow “resource boxes” however the removal without your knowledge was a mistake” ( https://twitter.com/bukisa/status/2333169719 )

They are very professional, aren’t they? Who cares if Bukisa is an article directory or not? No one. The point is that they infringed my copyright while in the same time do NOT want to correct their mistake by removing the article from their site…

Finally, what is the difference between Bukisa and a CONTENT THIEF who removes your resource box and then posts your article on his blog? In both cases, they had permission to post your article including your resource box. In both cases, they didn’t care about your copyright. Hmmm, it seems that there is no difference … Bravo, Bukisa! Keep doing your “great” job!

    Adrian Jock

P.S. Oops, in fact there is a difference between content thieves and Bukisa: most of the content thieves remove your article from their sites after they receive your copyright infringement notice (not because they are honest, they aren’t, but because they are afraid of complaints sent to their host).

Ezine Advertising – The Truth About Responsive Lists

    June 22nd, 2009

I have always wondered what some ezine advertisers understand by “responsive list”. A newsletter where any ezine ad written by any newbie who promotes any “business opportunity” will end up returning the expected result? Hmmm …

Some articles writers even teach their readers to ask the publishers whether their ezines are responsive or not. Why on earth would you like to ask an ezine publisher such a non-sense question? It’s like asking a seller whether his product is good or not. What answer do you really expect? “Actually, my product is of poor quality and I don’t even want to sell it. I show it only to make people laugh at it!” Like that? Or … “Hey, I only want to scam you… Do you still want to buy my product?” Well? Of course that any seller will not give you such answers even if sometimes they should.

The same is for ezine advertising: no ezine publisher will tell you that his mailing list is not responsive but stale and it doesn’t make any sense to advertise in that ezine.

Be reasonable and don’t ask dumb questions even if in so called ezine advertising tips articles some so called experts recommended you to do it.

The truth is that there are no responsive lists in the way some ezine advertisers believe. There are ezines that are responsive, no doubt, but the subscribers are responsive to publisher’s own messages, not to any ezine ad published by that publisher for a certain advertiser. There is a big difference and many ezine advertisers seem not to notice it or not to understand it…

Be realistic and always compare the online world with the world you know better … the offline world. Many people have a favorite newspaper or magazine that they read frequently. For the editor of that newspaper, they are the responsive readers. However, here comes the truth: do you really think that these readers take action on any advert published in their favorite newspaper or magazine? Of course not and this doesn’t mean that the readership is not responsive. It only means that if you’re an advertiser you should forget about myths like responsive lists…

It doesn’t exist a responsive list in the way you like … Reconsider your view on ezine advertising. It works, but not when you believe in myths.
